Berea – Third-round draft choice Travis Wilson ended his three day holdout by
signing a four year contract with the Browns on Friday. Wilson was happy to be
on the field.
“I missed a couple of days of practice, but I can make those up quickly,” he
said. “I wanted to be out on the field earlier, but this is the business side of
football.”
Wilson indicated that Braylon Edwards urged him to get in as soon as possible.
Last year, Edwards held out for two weeks and it took him until the middle of
the season before he was inserted into the lineup.
Ironically, due to Edwards’ recovery from a torn ACL injury, Wilson has an
opportunity to crack the starting lineup if Edwards is unable to return by the
start of the season.
“He got in,” Romeo Crennel said. “He’s behind and he has a lot of work to do to
catch up.”
Wilson said he’s glad to get the business behind him and get on to the business
of football.
“I’m happy with the deal,” Wilson said. “That’s what I hired my agent to do and
he got it done.”
Wilson (6-1, 213 pounds) was the 78th overall selection of the 2006 NFL Draft
out of Oklahoma. On draft day, he proclaimed himself the ‘best receiver in the
draft.’
Wilson, 22, had 105 receptions in his career for 1,315 yards and 17 touchdowns.
